Acomb Men1 came unstuck away against a youthful Sheffield University Bankers 5 who propelled the ball well in defence and midfield but lacked a potent strike force. The first half was a torrid goalless affair with the tangerines feeding on scraps of possession but with Dave Bell prominent in fine defensive form to keep the marauding Sheffield side at bay. The second half was more of an even event with Ryan Smith excelling in right midfield. The tangerines had a penalty corner turned round the post an Ryan Forster rounded the keeper but his goal bound shot was cleared. With 10 minutes remaining the home side struck in a goal mouth scramble but within 4 minutes the tangerines levelled when a Jamie Robinson penalty corner strike was deflected by Matt Dickenson under the home keeper. Stu Baxter unusually lost possession deep in the tangerines half and the home side took advantage with a shot that deflected over keeper Craig Brown to leave the tangerines needing to win their last two home fixtures to make certain of promotion.

Acomb Men 2 played host to Bradford Men’s 3, coming from the previous 0-0 draw earlier in the season, first half the game was back and forth between both teams, but neither team could find the back of the net.

3 minutes after the interval Bradford were awarded a penalty corner which was blocked by tangerine’s man of the match John Armitage. The game continued in an even fashion with both teams coming close to scoring but neither finding a passage to beat either keeper to leave a goalless draw.

Acomb ladies had no fixture following Garforth’s withdrawal from their league.
