Acomb Mens 1 travelled to 4th placed Huddersfield 2 looking to reverse an earlier defeat but again succumbed losing 2-1 in a game where their efforts were thwarted by Huddersfield’s man with a whistle. The tangerines couldn’t make hay when the home keeper was green carded for 2 minutes and in an end to end tussle the home side cleared a Matt Dickenson penalty corner off the line but the visitors were outdone in the 30th minute. Acomb levelled 2 minutes later when Pete Hilton’s cross found Nick Linfoot who neatly swept the ball home. The game became ragged with questions being asked on decisions which eventually led to Huddersfield being reduced to ten players for 5 minutes in which Acomb missed out on penalty corner decisions and a penalty stroke when Ryan Forster was upended. The home side closed the gap on second placed Acomb when they netted in the last five minutes despite the efforts of Stuart Baxter and defenders Paul Kellett and man of the match Dave Bell.
Acomb Mens 2 hosted City of York 6 at Energise in Division 5 North and within 5 minutes both sides had scored. The visitors first followed by skipper Johnny Brown and it looked as if the fixture would be a high scoring affair. However both midfields and defences fought hard and despite both teams having some chances the remainder of the game was goalless leaving a fair 1-1 draw.
The tangerine ladies played host to Wakefield Wanderers for their round 2 game of the season and it was goals galore for the hosts who are now unbeaten in the last 8 of their played league games. Their first goal came from some constant attacking pressure, a strike into the area found itself cleared on two occasions by the Wanderers defence but a strike from Skipper Kerry Woods powered through them and onto the stick of Hannah Yoward who was waiting poised and ready on the far post for the tap in for her brace. Acomb struck three more times before the break from a Sally Fairweather short corner, a Vicky Wrigley post deflection and an open play second from Hannah Yoward. The second half had barely began when Acomb added to the scoreboard once more with a reverse strike from Woods. Meanwhile at the other end the visitors had a couple of chances to get into the game with break through tangerine defence but keeper Stephanie Barker made sure nothing came of them. Driven on in midfield by the tireless Georgi Wood a hat-trick was claimed by Player of the Match Vicky Wrigley (pictured below) and another for the skipper Woods resulting in an 8-0 win for the ladies their biggest success for a few years lifting them to 4th in Division 2.
